Wind Speed and Latitude

One may think there is not a strong relationship between latitude and wind speed, however in northern hemisphere, as distance from the equator increases, so does wind speed. However, most of the sampled cities had wind speeds less than 15 mph. The variance of wind speed for each sampled city also seems to increase with distance away from the equator. Because the wind speed of most of the sampled cities are still less than 15 mph at great distances from the equator, the increased variance may be behind the apparent relationship between wind speed and latitude.
